218 Reilly Street
Senior Thesis Project at Fordham University

April 2008

Exhibition Statement:

218 Reilly Street is the house my grandfather built in Pennsylvania and the place where he and my grandmother have lived for fifty-nine years. As the children of Eastern European Immigrants, their lives have centered on religion, family, and the hard work it took to establish themselves in America. Their house is a reflection of this and the generation to which they belong. What you see is what they have earned.

For this Exhibition I returned to Pennsylvania on a number of occasions over the past year and, using a digital camera, photographed the interior details of this wonderful place - their home. In it I found a complex and rich blending of customs, faith, and traditions that at times moves from the quirky to the sincere, but is always rooted in the pride that is unique to their generation.
